run, run, run

As Josh and I walked outside yesterday morning at 6:30 AM, to meet up with our running buddies on our way to the starting line of the San Antonio Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon, I was enveloped in hot wet air. Clearly my clothing choice of running shorts, a tank top, and a long sleeve layer was wishful thinking. On my way inside to get rid of the unnecessary warmth and re-pin my number, I inhaled the warm humidity, which decided to make an very untimely appearance after several months absence.

Oh boy.

Despite the weather, my heart was soaring. I love half marathons. Those who have run them can attest to the wonderful feeling of accomplishment after the race. The pay off of running through that finish line after months of preparing and training. It is addicting. Seriously.

What might also be addicting is the hundreds of people who cheer for you like you are a rock star pretty much the entire time you are running. I like this part too.

A lot.

This race was particularly special to me because my sweet husband had trained with me and was running it too. What could be better than sharing one of your favorite things with someone you love?

Due to the horrific weather my friend Haley and I got pretty tired (i.e. haggard, dehydrated, and practically on the verge of death) around mile seven, so we took some walking breaks every mile or so til the end and finished in about two and a half hours, quite a respectable time considering the circumstances. It was Haley's first half marathon and it was SO FUN to be there as she accomplished such a big goal.

Josh is a superhero and has an impenetrable force field surrounding his body, thus he was unaffected by the awful humidity and heat. He finished the race in an amazing 2 hours. This is particularly incredible because he had been running about an 10.5 to 11 minute pace with us from the start through mile seven when he took off and made up a ton of time to finish that fast. He is amazing. I love him!

Happy first half marathon Josh!!! I can't wait for next time:)
