Viva Fiesta!

Fiesta is in full swing! This eleven day tradition began in 1891 to pay homage to the heroes of the Alamo and has developed into a wild celebration in downtown SA that brings over 3.5 million people. We love Fiesta, mainly because we get a day off work for the Battle of Flowers Parade:)

Last year we volunteered at NIOSA (Nights in Old San Antonio), a party that goes on every weeknight. We worked a soda booth for our friend Bekah to raise money for the Conservation Society. Here is our 2008 Fiesta Photo:

This year we got a bit more involved in the celebration and added colorful shirts to our ensemble. Josh got TONS of compliments for his off the shoulder look.

While we were hawking our RC Cola we witnessed the diversity of our lovely town. At one point we were listening to the wails of a bag pipe mingled with lively strains of a mariachi band, all while watching British Soldiers (in bright red coats) march, a troupe of polka dancers go to town on the dance floor, and a elderly lady with a cascarone hat that was bigger than her upper body wander towards the beer stand. To top off this spectacle...suddenly the Chicken Dance Song was blaring over the loudspeakers (for the hundreth time) and party goers roared their approval and started clucking.

NIOSA is a crazy crazy event that takes place in La Villita, a rather small space, and the party is PACKED. This picture is from the first night of the event...it gets more crowded as the week progresses!

Happy Fiesta Everyone!
