Valentine's Happenings at St. Anthony

This morning, I had some seniors in the library doing research. Their studies quickly dissolved into a discussion on the eternal dilemma, what to give a girl for Valentine's Day.

Poor Dominic was lamenting that he didn't know what to get his true love (of two weeks).

"Flowers? A stuffed animal? Chocolates?"

Jonathan quickly snuffed out those ideas, "All that just sounds like a bunch of crap from Walgreens."

Dominic's visions for romance were crushed. He hadn't slept all last night for thinking about what to get his dream girl. Six more days til THE day.

What could he do? Oh the despair.

Suddenly he had an illumination, "What about endless bouquets of white roses? Her favorite color is white! White roses are different, new, fresh! No ties to commitment like red roses, nothing scary like that. White roses, and lots of them, it would be perfection."

Jonathan looked at him like he was nuts, "Dom, are you nuts?! White roses symbolize death! You would be telling her 'Happy Valentine's Day, I hope you die.'"

Oh the sadness, poor Dominic was at a loss with this fatal blow to his idyllic valentine dreams.

Finally he mustered the courage for a response, "Well, Jonathan, what would YOU suggest?"

Jonathan smugly answered, "Make her dinner, its cheap yet romantic." He shrugged his shoulders and smiled at his simplicity, "They love it."

Dom looked dolefully at his teacher, Ms. G, and I. His deep seated beliefs on love and romance starting to shatter.....

"Can it be true? Is the way to a girl's heart really through her stomach?"

We both answered with a resounding yes.
