I have developed a love affair with NPR over the past five years. It all started with Ira Glass, host of This American Life. Each week the show makes me laugh, cry, learn, and gain a better perspective and appreciation for life.
Over the past year I have crushed on the show Tell Me More with Michel Martin. I particularly enjoy the weekly roundtables that gather various women to chat about a real world topics such as being a Muslim woman in America. The show teaches me, tugs on my heart strings, and expands my worldview. I love it.
StoryCorps is a show that seeks to record the lives and stories of everyday Americans. Each episode speaks to my inner historian self. Who knew in five minutes or less the radio could bring you to tears and inspire you. Seriously, just listen.
My latest NPR love is the podcast Pop Culture Happy Hour. What can get better than a group of intelligent and funny people talking about and/or making fun of movies, television, music...all that is pop culture. I love that they affirm my guilty pleasures (such as The Bachelor) by loving them too all the while making fun of them in smart ways. Perfection.

So, Ira Glass lives below one of my colleagues and her roommates. They are all LOUD football fans and, being New Yorkers, wear lots of high heeled shoes. She says that every time Ira or his wife sees any of them in the halls, he gives them the stink eye. He's apparently also left notes and complained about how loud they are. Poor Ira!
