AC and Trifles

Picture sitting in a library...without AC...in August...in San Antonio. Lingering smells of pizza and deli meats pervade the air. Faculty lunch has still been held in the library even though the temperatures have hovered in the mid to high nineties. The mornings were bearable, it was the afternoons that really got me. My little fan and portable AC unit could not win the battle against the August heat. I left work one day last week and the thermostat read 99. It felt like this...well, almost.

I have a new respect for both modern technology AND the previous unlucky generations who lived in San Antonio without AC. After a week and a half of this sad existence, I walked into the library on Wednesday afternoon and a cool rush of air embraced me. Joy, happiness, delight!

While I have been battling the heat, Josh has been working hard welcoming the RA's. Group activities, meals, etc. keep him busy from 8AM til 9PM or later. We are ready for Labor day!!! We had a dessert at our house last night for his staff. 17 students crammed into our little apartment for brownies, homeaid ice cream, and a berry trifle. Josh and I made the trifle earlier in the afternoon, it was quite an accomplishment and everyone loved it!! This is sadly the only picture of our beatiful creation. It was worth every bit of the mess:)

And here is the token picture of our sweet dog. She got a new toy today. Have I mentioned that we really love her?
