Every day is a new adventure at my job. Some days are more normal than others, but most prove entertaining. We began this morning, as we do everyday, in chapel. Various school clubs were presenting extra-curricular opportunities for the year. The president (a junior) of the Comedy Club lamented the fact that membership was low last year. He went on to encourage his fellow students to join, excitedly explaining that if their numbers were high enough, the Rivercenter Comedy Club would sponsor them all for a "one night stand."
After a couple seconds of silence, nervous laughter twittered around the room while the Vice Principal's eyebrows shot up and other administrators tried to hide their laughter. The junior, who didn't even notice the response, calmly took his seat without realizing the implications of his word choice.
In other school related news, today was my first day back with my freshman book club from last year. Now they are big sophmores and I can't help but lament the quick passing of time. It seems just yesterday that they came into the library as wide eyed ninth grade book lovers. Now they are smarter and wiser tenth graders, grown tall over the summer with a waning passion for the written word as other things increasingly demand their time. They are still eager readers though and hopefully we can continue to foster a life long love of books in them. They are intelligent, silly, adorable, exasperating, and completely lovable. This will be a good year.
I wish I was a sophomore at your school! You will have to keep me updated with what you guys are reading!
