one race + one nap + two movies = our saturday

This past Saturday morning, Josh and I woke up at 5:30AM to go run the Derby Mini Half Marathon

On mile eight or so, my legs started angrily protesting and my brain started shouting, Why? Why would you do such a thing to yourself?

Josh heard my brain and said, That is a great question.

It was right about then that a spectator was kind enough to remind us all that yes, we had indeed paid to do this to ourselves.

For some reason, this half was particularly difficult for me. It was just an off day. I am sure the lack of consistent training had something to do with it. We had been doing well until the three weeks preceding the race when we only ran three times...oops.

Thankfully I have a very encouraging husband who stayed with me and got me through to the end. We didn't make our best time, but we finished. Thank the good Lord above. We got to run through Churchill Downs on the route too which was a welcome and fun distraction.

After the race we came home and crashed. We watched the latest Harry Potter, took a long nap (does four hours count as long? or extra long?), revived long enough to eat pizza and watch The Station Agent, then went to bed promptly at 10PM.

The race was alright, Harry Potter was intense, the nap was most excellent, and The Station Agent was a surprise hit. What a quirky, sweet and endearing movie. I loved it and I think you might too.
